Come Join me for the first few days of fall break exploring the beautiful mountains of Tennessee! I saw someone led this trip in the summer and it looked so awesome I wanted to try it! This is a 28 mile stretch of the AT and it is absolutely beautiful.
Here are the details:
Meet at 6pm at Echols and drive 5 hours to the mountain harbor bed and breakfast. We will pitch a tent and sleep at their outdoor sites for 10$ per site plus 5$per person which the club should cover. Then we will wake up early the next morning,take a shuttle which costs 50$ dollars to our trailhead,(this cost will be spread evenly between however many people come so it shouldn’t be more than 15$ per person) hike 10-12 miles, spend a night under the stars, then hike another 10-12 the next day, and then finish up on Sunday and hopefully make it back to the car before noon, and back to Charlottesville by around 5 or 6pm
Food: I will be bringing a camp stove which you are welcome to use if you don’t have one, but I’m thinking we’ll all just bring our own food to make things easier!
who: People who have some backpacking experience, hiking 12 miles with a pack can be pretty hard especially if you’ve never done it before. Email me if your not sure whether this is a good fit for you or not!
Gear:
Backpack
Sleeping bag
Sleeping pad
headlamp
you can get all this stuff from the club
Other stuff to bring:
Good hiking shoes/warm socks
a bottle big enough for at least 2L
snacks
Warm clothes! especially for night time
utensils and eating supplies such as a small bowl
rain jacket
water purifier if you have one
We’ll also want to bring some tents, I have a single tent I’ll be bringing so I can get some from the club if people need one.
My car isn’t that reliable so I am going to wait list everyone until someone with a car signs up then I can start adding people. The club will pay for gas!! it should only be about 80$ roundtrip.And we’ll go from there after we see how many cars sign up.
