Hey y’all
It’s sooo hard to fit in the amount of backpacking I want to do when I’ve got this much HW… so… Friday night backpacking! This should be a fun trip. It’ll just be a 5 miles out-and-back type of deal, but we’ll stay at this cool shelter that has a pretty stream in front of it and we’ll pass by a few interesting things- namely, a small/old family cemetery and the ruins of a home/fireplace?

Plan:
Friday 4PM: Meet at Echols, drive to Rockfish gap
4:30PM: Get to Rockfish, start hiking 5 miles in
6:30 ish: Get to the shelter; dinner, set up camp, other assorted shenanigans
Saturday
7:00AM ish- wake up (I know guys, sorry, but I gotta get back to do homework)
8:30AM start hiking 5 miles out
10:30AM get to cars
11:00AM back in Cville

Here’s what you need:
-sleeping bag (I recommend a 20 deg bag, or a 30 deg w/ a liner)
-liner bag (optional)
-sleeping pad (inflatable or foam)
-backpacking pack w/ liner trash bag (to keep ur gear dry if it rains- they have these in the gear room)
-tent (I will also try to connect people so tents can be shared)
-headlamp
-cook pot/bowl if you plan on cooking (usually a pot can be used as a bowl)
-utensil
-layers (all layers should be non-cotton)
-1 shirt for hiking (can be long or short sleeve, depending on weather, which I’ll update y’all on as we get closer)
-1 shirt for sleeping (long sleeve)
-1 shorts or pants for hiking (look @ the weather)
-1 leggings/warm pants for sleeping
-hiking socks
-hiking shoes or boots (MUST be broken in/have been used a few times)
-camp shoes (optional: such as crocs, sandals, etc)
-fleece/intermediate layer
-puffy jacket
-hat
-gloves
-rain jacket
-rain pants (optional)
-underwear
-toothbrush/toothpaste unless ur nasty (that’s ok too)
-other necessary hygenie items
-Food (1 dinner, 1 breakfast, plenty of snacks)

-Toilet paper and trowel for digging catholes
-2 PocketRocket camp stoves, 2 fuel canisters, lighters
-Water filter
