Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Shenandoah National Park
With all the water we’ve had recently, the waterfalls should be spectacular. This 6+/- mile hike with elevation gain of about 1200 feet passes 2 waterfalls. We should get to the first one, Rose River, around 12:30-1 so we will stop for lunch/snacks. The second one is the popular Dark Hollow Falls. We will pass an overlook on our way back to the cars so we should also get a view if the weather cooperates.
I will increase the group size if drivers sign up but will cap the limit at 12 because anything larger feels like a tour bus through the woods.
Bring: Daypack for snacks, water, layers of clothing. 2 liters of water, hiking or tennis shoes with grip, raingear (waterproof jacket or poncho), camera, park pass if you have one. Avoid jeans and cotton clothing because they are very uncomfortable to hike in when wet an increase the risk of hypothermia – even at relatively warm temperatures.
