OVERVIEW

Hey goons,

Last week’s Thursday Humpback was a grand time. Why not do it again??

The below is mostly the same as from last week’s description:

We’ll shoot to take off from the Echols Brick Wall at a 5:00am so I’m setting the meeting time as 4:45am. PLEASE DON’T BE LATE. It’s the kind of thing where if we are just too late the experience is loses quite a bit of value.

Please bring LAYERS so you won’t be chilly at the top but can still stay cool in the waxing morning heat on the way down. Also bring water. 1-2L minimum.

For those of you who have never done the hike, it’s a moderately difficult, but short, hike right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. A bit over half a mile each way.

OK, now for the part about the coffee and potluck. I have a really nice bag of ground, organic, Guatemalan coffee. However since I am once again living in first year dorms (anybody ever seen Groundhog Day??) I don’t have a french press or anything of the sort. If anybody has one and can provide it for the trip they’ll get wait list priority after drivers. Everyone will have to bring their own mug (classic BYOM type situation). We will be boiling the water via a backpacking stove. If anyone has one of those and can bring it they will also get wait list priority.

As far as the potluck is concerned, everyone will be expected to bring something that we can all eat at the top alongside our coffee. Plan to feed 20 people. I’ll be bringing a huge pack of big carrots as well as the ground coffee. Potential other things to bring for the potluck:

-fresh fruit
-oatmeal packets (we’ll already be boiling water!)
-bread and cheese
-orange juice
-pastries
-crackers
-PB&J

OTHER THINGS TO BRING:
-layers
-WATER (1-2L)
-comfortable shoes for walking
-french press if you have one
-backpacking stove if you have one
