Run for the Lungs 5K: Charity Adventure!

OVERVIEW

This is a 5K run/walk to benefit the UVa Cancer Center as well as help kick off Lung Cancer Awareness Month. It is being hosted by another club on grounds, FORCE (Fighting, Overcoming, and Responding to Cancer Everywhere), and you can check out their website for more details and to obtain an entry form as a Word document or PDF file (scroll to the bottom of the page):

What to bring:
Completed entry form and $10. That and anything else you want to have with you for the race. It will probably be cold, so be prepared! There will be water and an assortment of food, but bring whatever you know you will need.

What the club provides:
$5 of the entry fee (which does not come out of your Club Bux), so doing it through the club is an awesome discount!!

On Race Day:
Registration begins at 8am, so you’re more than welcome to come then, but I think 9am is sufficient (the race begins at 10am).

Location:
To clarify, the Newcomb Hall Plaza is by the bookstore (where that big white tent used to be). Look for a sign that says “UVa Outdoors” or hunt me down.

T-shirts:
Because it’s past the pre-registration deadline, T-shirts will be available for all Outdoors members at Ragged Mountain Running Shop after the race (I will let you know when the shipment comes in). There is a small chance there may be enough shirts available on race day, but for now, expect ’em later.

Prizes:
Prizes include gift certificates to a myriad of local businesses including New Balance, restaurants on the Corner, and CDs from Plan 9. There will be prizes for the top male and female finishers in each age group. All runners are eligible for a random drawing of other prizes.

It’s a “fun run”–come to have fun!! There are already over 70 runners pre-registered, so come help us make this our biggest and best yet! 🙂
