OVERVIEW

Capt. Russ says:
‘Joie de Vie’ sails the Chesapeake Bay from Deltaville, VA. ‘Joie de Vie’ is a 33 foot Cape Dory, sloop rigged, fine sailing boat proven to be capable of coastal and extended cruising. Her modified full keel design allows her to handle well in all sea conditions. She has a finely appointed teak interior. The galley is fully equipped and there is an icebox available.

Megan translates:
After about a 2 1/2 hour drive, we’ll be sailing on a nice-sized, typically rigged sailboat named the Joy of Life for 4 hours on the afternoon of Sat. Oct. 30. (specific departure times will be given at a later date..those listed are just a guess)

Capt. Russ says:
Non-marking boat or tennis shoes are a must (no black soled tennis shoes). You may want to bring other personal items such as sunglasses, long sleeve shirt, long pants, and sweater, bathing suit, towel, hat, sunscreen, and if prone to it motion sickness medication (try the non-drowsy type or see your doctor). Foul weather gear is provided on board or you can bring your own. We may also troll a line or two and test our luck at fishing. A soft duffel bag is preferred for storing your personal gear. You may bring one cooler of a reasonable size for your group.

Megan translates:
Make sure to wear the right shoes, and check the weather before Sat. Bring appropriate clothing for the day, whether that means, swimsuits and sunglasses, long-sleeves and pants, or a rain jacket and galoshes (ok, not sure about the galoshes, but its a great word). Also, if you’re prone to motion-sickness, sign-up for a different adventure. Once the group has been decided we’ll chat about provisions (boating term for food and drinks).

Capt. Russ says:
A statement of risk is will be presented for all to sign prior to departure. Everyone is encouraged to lend a hand and learn to sail. Instruction may be blended in during the day. You can’t help getting some good sailing experience through the course of the day.

Megan translates:
After signing your life away, we have a great time aboard the sailboat and actually get involved in the work of sailing.
