Ray's Campground
New River Gorge
We’ll be leaving Ray’s Campground between 5:30 and 6am, and be doing Endless Wall – a moderate 2.5-3 mile hike through dense forest, leading to various lookout points along the ridge. The end point will be Diamond Point, where we’ll catch the sunrise. The sun rises at 7:31am, so leaving between 5:30 and 6 should give us enough time, since the hike is short and isn’t located far from the campground.
Looking at the pics online, the view looks pretty dank.
What you’ll need
– hiking clothes
– water
– breakfast if you’re all about the gainz
– head lamps
You will need to get your own head lamp from the gear room!! I don’t know how vital these are, but the morning should be pretty dark, so it’s important that most everyone has one.
I’ve never done this hike before, so I’m hoping the lookout point faces the sunrise, but it should be a sick view either way.
I’m capping this trip at 10 people – I have a car that seats 5, so 5 are guaranteed to go, and we’ll do 10 if we can get another driver that can seat 5+.
Sleep is for the weak.
