Sc Backpacking and Georgia Beachin

OVERVIEW

Forgot to make spring break plans? This’ll get some sun on your face and sand on your toes…but you’ll have to work for it first. We will start at Francis Marion National Forest and do a three night backpacking gig (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/scnfs/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=47301&actid=51) . Then we will head to just outside Savannah, Georgia and camp at Skidaway Island State Park (http://www.gastateparks.org/SkidawayIsland). We can spend the next two days checking out those trails, grabbing real food in Savannah, or ferrying over to the barrier islands of Wassaw (http://www.fws.gov/wassaw/). Purposefully vague plan is as follows:

Saturday: Drive from C’ville (~7 to 8 hrs) 1 to 2 mile to campsite
Sunday: Hike Swamp Fox Passage/Palmetto Trail Part I (12 miles)
Monday: Hike Swamp Fox Passage/Palmetto Trail Part II (3 miles)
*Drive ~3 hr, to Skidaway Island
Tuesday: Skidaway Island Trail (3mi) play in the water, dinner in Savannah
Wednesday: Ferry to Wassaw Island (this is dependent on interest and cost–from the little I’ve looked into it we might have to charter a boat to take us there, which might not be worth it. But it is the only Barrier Island that has never been cleared!)
Thursday: Pack up and leave, drive back to C’ville (~8 hrs)

***Club provides:Gas reimbursement for drivers, + 30% tip. Gear if needed (tents, headlamps, backpacks, stoves/fuel, sleeping bags/pads, drom bags, etc). Reimbursement for campsites and food.

You provide:~$40 for ferry/food on the road/other miscellaneous costs. Personal gear (good hiking shoes, water bottles, utensils). Bathing suit, but also layers. It may be warm or it may not.
