OVERVIEW

Didn’t get on the list for Nick’s trip to Snowshoe?
Me either.

So put down the book or step out of the lecture or do whatever you have to in order to sign up earlier for THIS trip. UVA has been standing for 183 years and it will last a while longer but the snow can’t wait!

The details for the trip will look a lot like Nicks except that I don’t want any candy, and you’ve missed the deadline for the season’s pass at the obscenely low price if you didn’t sign up for it. So take a peek at his details for information on gear rental and the like.

This is a skiing and snowboard trip. Skiing and snowboarding are done in the snow. On the tops of mountains. As such you will need:

LOTS of warm clothes. Gloves, hats, mittens, goggles, thermal underwear, extra clothes to change into after playing. You will want more clothes then you may think you need. Stuff gets wet when snow melts on it. Wet clothes suck when you are trying to chill after a hard day on the snow. Waterproof jackets and pants are the best for day time playing. If this is your first time skiing or snowboarding, please contact me for more information, or for a checklist of gear you are really going to want.

Beginners are welcome and encouraged. The mountain offers lessons which you will have to pay for separately. However, I have been teaching snowboarding since 98 and am willing to spend some time each day teaching beginners for free if you are willing to be flexible with me wanting to go play as well. I will also gladly do some informal lessons for people that aren’t novices if there is interest. I have taught every aspect of riding so if there is something you would like to learn then let me know and we will set up some fun classes. Want to learn to carve? Want to grind your first box? Want to frontside the stair-set or switch two-sev onto a rainbow?
Let’s play!

I have limited the number of attendees to ten, however, there is a possibility of renting another 6 or 10 person house if there is enough interest. I am only planning on taking as many folks as we have beds unless people are really excited about sleeping on the floor, which I am not. Before you say “I don’t mind sleeping on the floor!” Please bear in mind that you will be spending the day skiing/riding. That you probably haven’t been yet this season. That you will be sore, especially by Friday morning, and that if you say you don’t mind sleeping on the floor and then complain about it I will kick you. Twice.

I don’t mind if people genuinely want to sleep on the floor, if people do and don’t want to rent an additional house it will bring the lodging cost down for everyone.

Additionally, I need to follow Nick’s lead and waitlist people until I know how many people can drive.

Also, within reason priority will be given to the folks currently on Nick’s waitlist as that is why I set this trip up. However, don’t wait till the first to make up your mind. No friends on powder days and all that.

The club will take care of food for breakfast and dinner. You’re on your own for food during the day so bring some dollah dollah bills yo.

I thought about writing the whole description in rap slang. Aren’t you glad I didn’t?

The lodging fees should be between 14 and 20 dollars depending on how many people sign up. Extra money will be returned the day of departure in cash.

I require a $30 deposit by the first of December. And a minimum of four attendees.

I will post times to meet with people to collect cash or checks as soon as I know there is enough interest.

I worked as the chef for a program like Outwardbound and am used to cooking for large numbers of people. Let me know if you have any dietary needs as I will gladly include veggie or vegan friendly options for all the meals but won’t if no one needs/wants them. I’m used to working around food allergies, but please don’t tell me you are allergic to carrots just because you don’t like them. I’ll email everyone a rough menu plan as soon as people start signing up.

Stargazing will be done from the first hot tub we can find.

Snowshoe got almost a foot of snow the night of the 17th!

Come play!!
