Shenandoah Night Sky Festival

OVERVIEW

SOOO I (extremely last minute) found out about the Night Sky Festival in Shenandoah… and somehow secured a campsite at Big Meadows (don’t ask me how)… so WHO WANTS TO GO???!!

The festival runs from Friday-Sunday and is a series of events/activities going on at various locations in the park. Most of the events are at Big Meadows, and then some late night ones are at the Skyland amphitheater (8 miles from Big Meadows). SOO we should just hang there all day!!!! The first event at Big Meadows is @10am, but we don’t have to go that early. That said, the itinerary is extremely loose and we can accommodate other peoples’ schedules and what people want to do! We can go to all or some of the events, and I’ll also plan to bring a book and maybe some crocheting if I want to chill. We could even go for a small hike around there if we want.

The campsite I reserved fits 2 tents and is for 6 people. I got a 4 and a 2 person tent so we should be all good! We will also be right near the lodge so people could grab lunch/food there if they want! I also have a jetboil I can bring if we want to make food/do a picnic!!

Loose itinerary would be to leave Charlottesville around 1030am or so to make the 1230 activity and check into our campsite. We would then stay at Big Meadows until the 830pm showing at the Skyland Ampitheater (we can drive there). Then we would camp overnight at Big Meadows. I work Saturday at 12pm so I would hope to leave around 9am.

TO BRING:
– Sleeping bag or blanket of some kind
– Food for all day Friday and early Saturday
– Water (there is potable water at the campground so just have your bottle!)
– Anything you wanna do while there
– Hiking shoes if you want
– Picnic blanket??
– Things you need for an over night: toiletries + clothes

I have a park entry pass and can drive if nobody else can.

Also, if you want to come but can’t stay the night, you could drive up and hang out with us during the day then go home later! You don’t have to commit to the whole day!
