Shoot for the Stars (with a camera!)

OVERVIEW

Hey folks!
Let’s go stargazing! I have some decent experience with astrophotography and a deep desire to get more ODC people into it! The plan is to drive towards Big Meadows – a pretty excellent spot without light pollution- to marvel at the stars and capture them on camera. It’s going to be a new moon, so there will be even less natural light pollution and we should catch some good shots. If you don’t want to be a screenager, you can also just come for the vibes and look up. Drivers get priority off the waitlist!

I am planning this WAY in advance because I don’t want to forget again and then have to wait for the next new moon.

Schedule:
8:00 pm – leave from Echols
9:00 pm – arrive at Big Meadows (or potentially a less crowded area if we find one on Skyline drive)
10:00 pm – get cold and decide to leave
11:00 pm – return to Echols

To bring:
Layers- it gets chilly up there, especially at night
Blanket- to sit on
Camera/tripod – optional if you have them
Snacks 🙂

I’ll bring:
One DSLR camera and tripod
My mid-tier knowledge of astrophotography
