OVERVIEW

Need more adventure in your life? Come explore the south fork of the rivanna reservoir as we paddle west past the Ivy Creek Natural Area. The stream here is slow, winding and full of animals (beavers mainly). The entire trip is flat-water. We will meet at 6:05 pm, and be on the water by 6:30 (sunset is at ~6:30). The plan is to paddle for about 45 min then turn around and paddle back.

I expect it to be dark 30-40 min after the trip begins. We will then paddle in the darkness. Without flashlights on, it will be more peaceful and natural. Bring a flashlight or headlamp. I will be bringing extra lights and batteries. I will bring a GPS to measure the total distance paddled and 2 dry bags to make sure your extra warm clothes stays dry. It might be cold out there if the sky is clear. You may want to bring gloves and a hat. PFD’s will be provided.

There are 3 seats in the canoe. No experience is necessary.

If you know any club members with a truck, call them up and ask them if they want to join us so I can increase the group size. The club has 2 canoes, but my car can only carry one on its roof rack.

If it is easier, you may meet at my house at 5:55, then ride with me and the boat over to Echols. I live at 129 Piedmont Ave N. It’s 50 yards south of Runk Dining Hall.
