Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Manchester Wall
*Steve Irwin voice*
“Crikey! It’s a beginner climbing trip in the wild! Those have been few and far between in this ecosystem for far to long!”
That’s right, here is your chance to jump (and climb) into the world of outdoor rock climbing! And what’s more, we’ll be going to Manchester Wall in Richmond which is one of the best places to learn. This trip is for anyone who wants to get better at climbing, regardless of your experience (of lack thereof):
First time even thinking about climbing? C’mon and join!
Want to learn how to lead climb despite already knowing how to top rope? Send it!
Have you seen rocks? Learn to conquer them!
Haven’t seen rocks? I don’t think I can help you…
We will either be focusing on top-rope climbing OR lead climbing for this trip. Don’t know what that means? Check this out: https://www.quora.com/How-does-climbing-top-rope-lead-and-trad-differ
Ok, now that you’re in, here’s some deets! (Apologies for the early departure, but we’ve gotta beat the crowds to the crag!)
The Plan:
8:00 am Meet at Echols with an adventurous spirit
9:20 am Arrive at Manchester Wall parking area
9:40am Arrive at crag and get sendy with it
10:10am Law and order time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP3MuUTmXNk)
3:00pm Pack up and head back to the car (Flexible, depends on how everyone is feeling)
3:20pm Arrive back at car(s) and head out
4:50ish Get back to Cville, maybe hit up some food on the ride home!
You bring:
1. Lunch food for yourself
2. Harness (in gear room)
3. Climbing shoes (in gear room)
4. Climbing helmet (in gear room)
5. Water (2L)
6. Excitement and tunes
I Bring:
1. Ropes and slings
2. Belay devices
3. Quickdraws and the like
4. Speaker for the aforementioned tunes
5. More sass than sasquatch himself
***Experienced climbers (and drivers) also wanted! The trip is capped at 4 now since I’m the only one who will be teaching. That is subject to change if experienced people join the trip.***
