OVERVIEW

Snowshoe arguably is the best mountain for skiing and snowboarding in the Southeast, with surprisingly good trails and variety. We’ll drive Friday (3 or 4 hours) to Cass Railroad State Park where we’ve rented two whole houses (next door to each other), party Friday night, ski/snowboard Saturday, party Saturday night, and ski/snowboard Sunday as well if you want. We’ll get back to Cville in the afternoon or at night depending on when drivers decide to leave. In addition, 5 or 10 students from the William and Mary Outdoors Club are going to join us! This will be a total blast!

Outdoors at UVa provides:

The club will pay for the rented houses (at Cass Railroad State Park, about 20 minutes’ drive from the mountain) which have several bedrooms, cable TV, kitchen, living room, etc. and one of the houses has a fireplace. Some people will get beds, but several will have to sleep on couches, backpacking pads on floor, etc. Maybe we’ll do a lottery. Sleeping bags and pads will be provided if you don’t have them. Also provided: gas money and a seat in a car if you don’t have one, and firewood. In addition, in the rental houses the club will provide Saturday breakfast and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Finally, if at least 20 people sign up (which I expect to happen), we’ll get the following discounted group + student lift ticket rates: $43 for “day” (8:30am-4:30pm) or “twilight” (12:30pm-10pm), and $33 for “half day” (12:30pm-4:30pm). If we don’t get 20 people, add 10% to the lift tickets. Rentals (if you need them) will be $29.68/day for skis and $40.28/day for snowboards.

You must bring:

Please come having eaten dinner or bring dinner with you to eat in the car. Bring your own skis / snowboard if you won’t be renting. Bring a sleeping bag and sleeping pad if you have them. In addition to bringing lunch money for Saturday and Sunday, bring along snacks and, uh, any beverages you might want to consume because there are no stores near the rental houses. Bringing musical instruments would be great. Finally and very importantly, bring your student ID card, and checkbook or cash to pay for lift tickets. Credit cards o.k. for rentals only.
