OVERVIEW

This 3.3-mile hike to a beautiful tall waterfall (Lewis Spring Falls) and a fantastic mountain-top view (Blackrock) should be amazing with the blanket of snow all around! And top that off with an inspiring sunset across the mountain ranges! Hike is off Skyline Drive, near Big Meadows, in Shenandoah National Park. Classes are over, come take the break you deserve and celebrate! Note: I (Matt) have to confirm with the park service that Skyline Drive is cleared and open. Please check your email after 6pm Friday. If no email from me, then we should be good to go.

Outdoors at UVa provides:

**SORRY, HIKE CANCELED. SKYLINE DRIVE IS CLOSED**
Gas money and a seat in a car.

You must bring:

We may be the first ones on the trail since the snow fell, and it will not have melted much up there — so **sneakers are strongly discouraged** (you’ll be miserable and risk frostbite with cold wet sneaks!). Waterproof boots with good traction are strongly suggested. It will be VERY COLD especially at the viewpoint (with winds) so please bring LOTS AND LOTS OF LAYERS of clothes. Bring too many to be safe; you can peel off a layer if you get hot while hiking. Wear thermals on legs and upper body. Also bring gloves, a hat, and a flashlight. Finally, bring some water and your camera!
