OVERVIEW

Anyone up for a weekend of haphazard hill sliding on skiis or snowboards? It’s been a good weather start to the season and Snowshoe is completely, 100% open! I’m going to take advantage of the powtential and get out for a trip. I’ve got two seats in my car and a ski rack. If we end up with additional drivers then we’ll be able to take more folks as well.

Timing:
Meet at Echols Dorm at 6 PM on Friday 1/19, drive to Bear Creek Lodge, ski/board Saturday and Sunday, then return to Echols by 7pm on Sunday, 1/21 (or earlier if we’re all tired).

Lodging:
Staying on the mountain is expensive so I’m planning to hole up at the Bear Creek Lodge in Cass on Friday and Saturday night. It’s about 20 minutes from the mountain and depending upon how many people join the trip it should cost around $40-$60 per person total (including both nights). After the $5/night indoors club reimbursement per person, that puts the total lodging cost between $30-$50 for the weekend.
The room(s) should have 2 double beds so people will probably have to split double beds and/or sleep on the floor. It would be a good idea to bring a sleeping pad, bag, and pillow just in case.

Skiing/boarding:
Everyone must take care of purchasing their own lift tickets and/or renting their own ski gear. We’ll park up at Top of The World- If you don’t have your own gear, you can rent up there. You can also buy lift tickets up there when we arrive or in advance on the Snowshoe website if you don’t have a season pass. Just make sure you are off the waitlist before buying tickets! There are slopes for all skill levels so as long as you know how to ski or are willing to figure it out there will be something for you.

Other gear:
You’ll want to have layers to dress warmly. For example, base layer, fleece, jacket, ski pants, wool socks, ski gloves, goggles. Helmets are also a good idea.

Food:
Bring food with you or pickup basic food at the general store in Cass- they have snacks and they also do a pretty countryfied hot breakfast and/or sandwiches.

Drivers:
DRIVERS NEEDED! After the first few signups, people will go to the waitlist until we have enough drivers. Until you get off the waitlist, please hold off on buying lift tickets or paying for rentals. If you’re thinking about driving, remember that the club pays for gas and a driver tip!
