OVERVIEW

Road conditions did not allow the Thursday trip to go out. Despite significant melting today (in Charlottesville at least), I think we’ll have plenty of snow on Sunday.

I still have my sights on Hawksbill mountain. We can reach the White Oak Canyon parking lot without having to worry about mountain roads (Skyline would definitely be closed). This trip will be roughly 10 miles out and back, but with ~2000 feet of vertical, with snowshoes, and stream crossings. No snowshoeing experience is required, but I expect it’ll be a hefty workout – more than 10 miles would be on dry trails.

Stream crossings *should* be passable without getting wet, unless you fall in. Don’t fall in!

You bring:
> Layers (waterproof outerlayers would be best.)
> Sturdy + waterproof boots
> Backpack
> Water (2L or more)
> Snacks + lunch
> Extras: socks + gloves would be obvious extras to bring
Don’t Bring:
> Anything cotton (you will sweat on the way up, and then you’ll be miserably cold at top / on the way down)

Club provides:
> A ride
> Snowshoes (I will check these out for us)
