OVERVIEW

SOUTHERN SUNSHINE!

Tis my last year of college and I have always wanted to go to Horse Pens 40! Alas a full sweep of the Triple Crown isn’t in the books this year because Stone Fort is during Spring Break, but HP40 can happen! Considered one of the best spots in the East for bouldering and part of the Triple Crown comp, this will be a fun-filled weekend. Don’t let the idea of a competition scare you. It mostly is just hopping around touching a lot of rock and having a great time! If we have enough interest and drivers I can increase the trip capacity but due to crash pads and camping gear we can have a maximum of 3 people per car.

The comp is $80, dinner on Saturday night may be $5. If you don’t get a free trial with active they also charge you a stupid $8 processing fee (I recommend the free trial and cancelling afterwards). Sunday climb is $10. For this reason I put $100 for fees but it may come out to more depending on how much you buy out vs. pack. ONLY REGISTER ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF THE WAITLIST. Itinerary:
Friday 2/28 – leave around 11:00 am so we can get to the campground in time to set up and get to bed early…it is about an 8 1/2 hour drive 🙁
Saturday 3/1 – CLIMB AND COMPETE AND THEN PARTYYYYYYY (normally dinner is provided or you can pay $5 cash…also free beer if over 21)
Sunday 3/2 – also climb and do any uncompleted boulders from the day before
Monday 3/3 – leave first thing in the morning and hopefully be back to Charlottesville by 5 pm

Things to Bring
– Camping stuff (think tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, pillow, soap for showering,
– Food (lunch/snacks for car ride on Friday and Monday if you don’t want to buy stuff on the road, Saturday and Sunday crag lunch, Friday + Sunday dinner, breakfast for three days…more or less enough food for four days of camping)
– Climbing shoes
– Chalk

What we will bring
– Pads and good vibes
– Camp stove and pots if people want it

RISK
The activity of bouldering is one of judgement and acceptable risk. It is impossible to eliminate the risk of injury completely when taking part in an adventurous outdoor activity. However pads and spotters will be used to mitigate risk to as low as a level as possible. If at any point you are uncomfortable you do not have to choose to continue climbing and can opt-in or opt-out of doing any particular climb.
