OVERVIEW

Oh no! Someone on my trip just broke their [insert bone here]! What should I do?

Well, come on down to our handy-dandy musculoskeletal injury management workshop and we’ll teach ya!

Learn basic wound management, how to differentiate between a usable vs. unusable musculoskeletal injury, and how to immobilize different bone breaks + make braces with the things you have with you in the wilderness!

The outdoors can be an unpredictable and dangerous place, so this workshop aims to teach you how to respond to a few of the scenarios you may encounter on trips you take with ODC and beyond. You do not have to be a trip leader to attend this workshop (anyone and everyone is welcome), though trip leaders are especially encouraged to sign up!

*Note that we will be practicing building splints and such on each other, but if you are uncomfortable with this, you don’t have to do so and can just watch!*

The Plan:
3:30pm – Meet in the Shred Shack backyard and start learning!
Sometime around 6pm – Workshop is over, we part ways now knowing so much more than we did mere hours ago!

Bring With You:
– A sweatshirt/long sleeve/fleece/jacket/rainjacket (for cool wilderness solutions that you’ll learn about)
– Whatever first aid kit you bring outside with you if you have one
– Some stuff you’d typically have with you in the outdoors (e.g., equipment you like for your typical activities; examples below)
– Mountain bikers: your backpack if you ride with one (and the stuff you take in it), an extra
layer or two, the first aid kit you keep on your bike
– Day hikers: day hiking pack and its contents, trekking poles, extra layer
– Backpackers: backpacking pack and a few typical things like a sleeping pad, sleeping bag
liner, extra layers, trekking poles
– A journal & pen to write things down in (if you want!)
– CLEAN FEET! We’ll be practicing taping ankles and no one wants to sniff your toe cheese, so wash ya feet or lose ya seat (with love).
– Water/snacks

See you there!
