Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Cedar Run & Whiteoak Canyon
Before the weather gets tooooo cold, I’d like to get as much outdoor swimming done as possible. But not just any outdoor swimming; I’m talking some badass natural waterslide waterfall swimming in the middle of the woods.
That’s right, my first trip is going to be one to Cedar Run. We’ll meet at Echols at approximately 3:45pm, make the 1.5 hour drive to the Cedar Run Trailhead, where we will begin a 1.7 mile hike downwards on the Cedar Run Trail to the falls where we’ll be slippin’, slidin’, swimmin’, and perhaps even snackin’ for 1-2 hours or however long we deem to be an acceptable amount of time to be wet. Then, we hike the same route back to the car and drive back, potentially stopping for dinner on the way back depending on the vibe and hunger levels of the group. I’ll tentatively put the return time as 10:00pm, but we very well may return sooner or later depending on.
What is important to note is that this is both a hiking and a swimming trip in mid-October, and the trail is supposedly hella steep (something like 1,000-1,700ft gain/loss in elevation in 1.7 miles), so proper gear to bring includes:
-Swimsuit (if you’re into that kind of thing)
-Towel
-Extra/warm clothes depending on the weather
-Sturdy shoes for hiking
-Snacks
-Maybe a GoPro if you have one
-A headlamp, just in case that dang sun decides to set while we’re on the trail
-Money for a potential dinner stop afterwards
-Your best jokes
-Willingness to put up with my relentless tom foolery and jocular remarks
Important: will cost $5 for parking if we don’t get SNP passes
DRIVERS NEEDED!
-drivers get priority off the waitlist. The club reimburses for gas +50% tip!
