OVERVIEW

**BEFORE YOU CLICK AWAY: The exact dates/leave time for this trip are negotiable! It’ll be sometime over spring break, but we can figure out what works for people’s schedules

Howdy!! I was a bit bummed to not get on the Moab trip, so I decided to create my own Spring Break Extravaganza, in the hopes that maybe a few of you might like to join me. The idea behind this is that we’ll spend 6 days/5 nights on the AT, traversing a 77 mile section from Glasgow, VA, to Waynesboro, VA. Daily mileage varies from 5-18 miles, but most days is about 14-16 miles. This segment of the Appalachian Trail has some cool things like: The Priest, Humpback Rocks, the Triple Crown, and lots of other cool stuff. This could be the perfect trip for u, whether you have never been on a multi-day trip before or you have a ton of backpacking experience and need an excuse to get out there again.

Your Responsibilities:
-Must have been on an overnight backpacking trip prior to this
-Must be able to complete the planned mileage (you don’t have to complete it quickly, or easily; it’s fine if it’s a challenge for you, but you must feel comfortable doing it)
-Must be open to spending time independently in the woods (while we’re certainly going to spend a fair amount of time as a group (and will ideally always camp together), it’s likely that there will be moments where people want to hike independently during the day (and if you don’t like this idea, convince a bestie who wants to spend 100% of the trip by your side to sign up also)
-Must be able to obtain gear. A lot of the club’s gear will likely be being used for Moab at this time. Other options include: Using your own gear, borrowing from a friend, renting from UVA Outdoor Adventure, and I also have an extra 2P tent, extra sleeping bag and a few other things people can borrow. I may be able to get discounts on renting gear from OA (I work there), so reach out to me if you need gear.
-Bringing your own food
-Must bring good vibes

My responsibilities:
-Logistics figuring (Shuttling to Glasgow, route planning, risk management considerations, etc)
-Ensuring safety

To assuage any fears: I have a lot of trip leading experience both informally (like 4 years for Scouts when I was younger & ODC) and professionally (I lead trips for UVA OA). I have my wilderness first aid cert & will have a good first aid kit w/ me. I’ve also hiked this section of the Appalachian Trail (as well as the rest of it teehee). Basically, this is to say, my two cents is that you’re in good hands 🙂

Cost considerations (It’s variable, so just keep these things in mind):
If we have multiple drivers, we can shuttle our own cars. If not, we may have to pay for a shuttle from Waynesboro to Glasgow. I haven’t called the shuttle service yet, so I’m not entirely sure how much this would cost, but I’d expect $20-$50 per person depending on how many people we have.
If you need to rent gear from UVA OA (if ODC’s gear is used for Moab), consider that cost.
You will need to buy your own food.

I didn’t want to make this description crazy, so other details (gear list, exact tentative itinerary plan, plans for driving etc) will be sent out and/or negotiated after people have signed up.
This should be an awesome trip, but if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out!
