Corner of Echols (or wherever you want to be picked up)
also corner of echols (or wherever your heart desires)
Spruce Knob, West Virginia, USA
Well, on this week’s installment of my biweekly hiking trips, I’m trying to do something a little bit more ambitious. The plan is to backpack a ~16 mile loop at Spruce Knob, West Virginia, which is the highest point in WV. Along the way there’s also a 50 year old plane crash and a couple cool waterfalls. I have a car that can carry 3 ppl, but if someone else has a car we can bring more ppl. We’re planning on doing 5-6ish miles on the first day and 9-10ish on the second so it won’t be too terrible. Also fall colors should be in swing in this region of WV so we’ll get some beautiful views along the way.
Very rough schedule:
– Leave from corner of echols 1:30/2ish
– 4:00-4:30 – arrive at trailhead
– 7:00-8:00 – get to a campsite
sleep
saturday:
– 9:00 am – get moving
– 2 pm – back at trailhead
– 4 pm – back in cville
I will bring:
– food hanging rope
– hand shovel
– stove
– water filter
What you bring (if you don’t have anything on this list, go check out the gear room):
– hiking boots / shoes you feel comfortable walking ~14 miles in
– change of clothes if you want
– 3-4L water
– food (dinner for friday, breakfast/lunch for saturday)
