Stargazing at the darkest place in virginia

The Perseid meteor shower will peak this Thursday, so I wanted to see it in the best location possible! This spot right near the border of West Virginia is only a few miles away from the Green Bank Observatory with the worlds largest movable radio telescope and it has a Bortle rating of 2 (Which is really good!!!). I went stargazing here last fall and we were even able to see the northern lights faintly!

What to bring:
– A flashlight/headlamp
– A blanket to lay on (we will be in the grass, so be sure to check for ticks afterwards)
– Water/snacks
– Binoculars if you have them?

The plan:
– 7:00 PM – depart from echols
– 9:00 PM – look for meteors!
– 11:00-11:30 PM – head back to cville
– 1:00-1:30 AM – arrive back in cville
