OVERVIEW

Long story short: Drive out friday Oct 7, Bouldering Comp saturday, climb sunday (sport climbing obed and/or return to stone fort for more, discussion below), leave monday morning to return.

Lots of info below… email me if you have questions or concerns. Details are being coordinated, but I wanted to get this info out asap.

For those of you who don’t know what the triple crown is…

“The goal of the Triple Crown is twofold. First and foremost, the mission is to raise funds for two organizations dedicated to maintaining climbers’ access: the Southeastern Climbers’ Coalition and The Carolina Climbers’ Coalition. These two organizations have been instrumental in the acquisition of land for the climbing community, in a region that is riddled with access issues. Secondly, this unique event will once again provide a tremendous opportunity for vendors to promote the sport of bouldering, which has quickly become the focus of the ever growing climbing community.”

This is part two of 3 of the series, at Stone Fort, aka Little Rock City in Tennessee. This bouldering field is massive (Moormans doesn’t have anything on this place) and will even have some classic problems open just for the comp that are closed the rest of the year (since it shares land on a golf course. If you want more info check out www.triplecrownbouldering.com

Now for the important stuff…. First and foremost, Hopefully you got my last email and signed up online for this comp. If you want to join this trip, you MUST preregister for the competition (check out the above website and follow directions). Entrance is $50. While this sounds expensive, not only is this for a good cause, but that includes your t-shirt, and usually this comp is full of free swag (you can often make your money back with free stuff). If you just want to come watch, spectators are allowed this year for 20$. 30$ cheaper than in that past.

All levels/skills are welcome for the competition, though official climbing instruction will not be given.

This trip is being coordinated with the climbing team, so details are still being finalized. I will waitlist everyone and will have to limit beginner sport climbers until I have more drivers, coordinate rides, and can determine skill levels of everyone involved. I can fit a total of 3 people with gear in my vehicle, but would need one of those to be experienced in belaying, etc. in order to head to the Obed (this is why we are coordinating with the climbing team, as some may be bouldering sunday, some may be sport climbing).

There will be multiple departure times in necessary. The official trip will leave Friday at 4:15 pm, and return Monday NLT 430 pm. There are likely some vehicles leaving closer to noon on Friday

It is possible that one vehicle could leave after the competition on Sunday (but until I have a driver interested in doing so, plan on attending the entire trip, but let me know your preferences in the sign up form. A word of caution: Hound Ears was postponed to Sunday this year due to bad weather (which meant getting home late this past sunday night), the same could happen at Stonefort. Please plan accordingly. If you have homework… bring it.

What you provide.
-Entrance/Sign up fee
-climbing shoes
-chalk
-climbing tape (for your fingers if you need it)
-crash pad (if you have one).
-sleeping bag/pad/tent if you have one.
-BYOB
-any snacks you want
-money for dinner
-money for raffles (its hard not to win something.. Amy won herself a nice $160 crash pad for 5 bucks at hound ears)

…a note on crash pads… because this is a comp it is useful to have as many crashpads available, preferably one crash pad per one or two people, we may dedicate a larger vehicle to fit all our crash pads in. The more crash pads the merrier.

What club provides.
-camping gear (sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad if you need one)
-climbing gear (please go to the gear room ahead of time to try on shoes and a harness if you don’t have one)
-gas money (if you drive)
-camping (we are coordinating locations with the climbing team, but are looking at staying at Possum Creek RV and Campground)
-food for most meals. Saturday night we will eat at the comp (bring 5$), sunday night we may grab a bite to eat, possibly downtown chattanooga. I.e. bring money (~$25) just in case.
