Stony Man Sunset

OVERVIEW

No classes + fall foliage + sunset hike = perfect evening

Join it up if you’re eager to get off of Grounds and into the woods during reading days! I’ve picked out the highly-rated Stony Mountain Trail, accessed via the Little Stony Man Overlook. The hike is 3.1 miles with 800 feet of elevation gain and well-trafficked so it is very much beginner-friendly. Most of the drive is also on the Blue Ridge Parkway, so it should be beautiful!

I do not have a car so please sign up to drive if you can! Drivers will be reimbursed for gas with a 50% tip and will receive priority off the waitlist. I also do not have a pass for Shenandoah so pass holders will also receive priority!

Things to bring:
-Comfortable walking shoes
-Headlamp, flashlight, extra batteries
-Water! (at least one bottle, two is better)
-Please pack your own dinner to enjoy at the top!
-Layers
-Mask for the car ride
-$7.50 for park entry in case we don’t end up with any park passes (venmo is fine)

Approximate Schedule:
3:45 PM Depart from the corner of Echols Dorm
5:15 PM Arrive at Little Stony Man Parking
6:15 PM Summit the mountain!
6:40 PM Sunset
7:10 PM Dusk – start hiking down
8:00 PM Off the mountain and hitting the road
9:30 PM Return to UVA
