OVERVIEW

When you are wet, hungry, exhausted, and out in the middle of nowhere, there is truly nothing better than hearing the comforting roar of a camp stove. (The presence of a beautiful woman is a close second…) If you have any aspirations for leading/joining overnight outdoors trips, then this is your chance to learn all about backcountry stoves. In this workshop, we will learn how to choose, operate, clean, and store all types of camp stoves- including liquid fuel and canister stoves. I will also show you how to make your own stove using little more than an empty tuna can. Furthermore, I want to try and light up a club stove that has been rotting in the gear room for a few decades. It would be fun to see if it still works!! Last but not least, we will learn some techniques for cooking when you don’t have the luxury of a stove or fuel. Feel free to bring your favorite mug and some tea bags or hot chocolate mix (or some food for that matter). The workshop will take place at the UVA outdoor amphitheater which is located in between Garret Hall and Bryan Hall.
