OVERVIEW

Helloooo grags n griggs of da outdoors beyond!!!! Idk about you but this wondrous sunshine has put some jiggle in Max’s and my step, and we excitedly announce THE RETURN OF THE RIDGE RUNNING (long-distance foot-powered locomotion through da mountains!!!! Aka one of the purest, sheer awesome expressions of humanity).

Anywho, we’re gonna keep this trip relatively local and bop to Sugar Hollow, where there’s a boomin 18ish mile loop (check it out here). The terrain here is fairly gentle, so it’s an awesome first mountain run if you’re feeling like you wanna extend your foot-jogger motions into our Blue Ridges but aren’t sure yet of the best first step. 🙂 This loop is also straight magic even if you pop out ultras on the reg, so this trip will be a place for everyone – if we have a big enough group we’ll split into two groups based on speed, and we’ll also talk through the map / plan with everyone beforehand to make sure we’re on the same page and stay with a group if our paces naturally break us up along the way!

As many of you shredians know, sugar hollow is home to some SUPERB swimmin spots, so feel free to bring a change of clothes if ya wanna skadoosh during / after the jaunting!!! Here’s da plan:

6:15/30 AM – arise, fuel our adventure-yearning bodies, jiggle on out to Sugar Hollow
7 – 11ish: Runnnnnn, jaunt, skip, skaggle, walk, glaunt, galosh all around da trails!!
11ish: Hop back in dat car, journey on ova home
High noon: back in Cville, restored with the sheer power of our wondrous, crazy natural world, ready to jump into da weekend!!!

Annddd here are some packing recs:
Clothes for running / hiking
Some type of backpack / water belt for extra water n snacks along the way (let us know if you don’t have one and we’ll help you find one!!)
Speaking of which…WATER AND SNACKS! Electrolytes / gatorade-esque stuff is also awesome, especially when you’re moving over long distances. Swanky snacks could be fruit snacks, crackers, PB&J, leftover pizza, etc. – anythang with quick energy usually feels best but trust your body, and pack more food than you think you would want!!!!
Headlamp, if you have one (will probs leave it in car, but always good just in case)
Water filter, if ya have one (and if you wanna slurp some fresh spring agua)
Extra clothes / shoes for after run (and/or post skadoosh), if you so choose. Snacks for post-run are also a godsend.
Also aquaphor / bodyglide can be your friend with long-distance foot-powered motion 🙂

We’re scheming this with folks from the HURT trail running group, so we’re gonna have a solid group – trail partayyyy awaits!!! And we may even see some AT Thru-hikers!!!!!!!!! We can’t wait to revel in the woods with you wonderful people. 🙂
