OVERVIEW

ELLO DARLINGS

If you guys saw Melu’s deep water soloing trip last week and were as JAZZED about it as I was, never fear!! Patrick is BACK with me as his coleader to show us all (once again) how to deep water solo. The only difference between this trip and last week’s is that we will be traversing the lake via paddleboard (my favorite kind of water craft). We will be putting two people on each paddleboard and it’ll allow us to bring a few more people than went on the trip last time. I will be copying and pasting Melu’s trip description (with minor edits to match our trip for this Sunday) from last week after this because it was so lovely and descriptive, so here you go for all of your info needs!

Ever want to try free soloing without the anxiety that comes with putting your life in imminent danger? May I present to you: Deep Water Soloing. Basically, the climbs are right next to 10+ feet deep water that will catch you when you’re done climbing or happen to fall on your way up.

We’re lucky enough that we live only a few hours away from Summersville Lake, a DWS extravaganza! It’s a super cool lake with a range of climbing levels & styles, so don’t worry if you aren’t very experienced. We’ll start on some really easy rocks to get everyone feeling comfortable climbing and falling, and then check out some sendy stuff! And hey, don’t want to fall 30 feet into the water? You only fall as far as you climb. There’s also plenty of other chill activities to enjoy if you get tired.

You should, however, feel confident in your swimming and resurfacing abilities after falling so that we can all feel safe & comfortable. We’ll be navigating the lake with paddleboards, but you’ll need to be able to swim a short distance to it after falling in the water. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

Schedule:
8 am – meet at Echols
8:15ish – drive out to Summersville
11:30 – arrive at the parking lot & pump up the SUPs
12 – get in the water & get climbing! Hang out, paddle around, eat some snacks, and have a good time. Maybe even conquer the legendary Johnny Bravo!?
5ish (flexible depending on how long people want to stay! But 5 is probably the latest) – return to cars and head back to cville, get dinner on the way home depending on time
8:30/9 pm – arrival back in town!

What you need:
– Swimmy swimwear and possible raincoat for possible rain
– Towel
– Snacks & a lunch! We’ll be there all day
– Water
– Old climbing shoes or sneakers, or you can go barefoot! Don’t use the club climbing shoes because water can cause warping/damage
– Non-aerosol sunscreen
– Money for a possible food stop on the way back

Things Patrick & I will supply:
– paddleboards to navigate the lake (we will have to share!)
– Dry bags for our stuff

P.S. Drivers with big cars are oh so desired!! and they WILL get priority off of the waitlist, gas reimbursed, + 50% tip!!!!!!!
