OVERVIEW

it is no surprise that charlie haywood is leading yet another outdoors adventure…this one in honor of our beautiful golden sun & his beautiful golden retriever.

for those unfortunate folks who are stuck working all day (aka me) or for those who couldn’t strategically get a no-friday classes schedule or for those who are just too far down the waitlist on charlie’s…..this trip is for you!

this is a beginner friendly backpacking/slackpacking trip that’ll totally be worth ditching the ‘rents for a night if they’re already in town for the weekend (it will also totally get you back in time saturday to enjoy the day & game with them bc I 100% plan to do that)

unfortunately we will be missing out on sun appreciation part 1, and will be arriving post sunset, but we will still have ourselves a night, don’t you fret.

if you need to know anything other than the fact that there will be a dog awaiting our arrival here are some deets

depart 7:00 PM
arrive at trail head ~8:30 PM
hike ~2 miles to the saddle shelter area & join all the granola guys & gals on the companion trip. have a grand ole time. wake up & leave saddle by 6:45 AM saturday morning to catch the sunrise on little house at 7:43 AM. start the descent by 8:00 AM and be back on grounds no later than 11:00 AM

the shelter at saddle is very nice and it is recommended to plan on sleeping in it but if you’re more into the hammocking game there is no scarcity of trees to get you a tight hang for the night

To bring:
-backpacking backpack
-sleeping bag & sleeping pad
-sturdy shoes to hike in
-non-cotton clothes to hike in
-clothes to stay warm in (will likely be very chilly)
-rain jacket/ poncho in case of rain
-headlamp
-water (2+ liters for hike, water source at saddle)
-food and snacks (something to eat with if thats not obvious)
-toothbrush and toothpaste
-trashbags to rainproof clothes and gear
-at least 269 minutes worth of jams
-dog treats/toys

If you need a backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, headlamp, or hammock, you can check out all of these things totally free from the gear room! Everybody will be responsible for getting their own gear but charlie can assist in gear wrangling if necessary.
