OVERVIEW

Hey guys! The weather app (however unreliable it may be) reads 77 degrees on Sunday, which is the perfect excuse to hit the trails instead of the library! Old Rag is a 9.something mile loop that has a 2,3000ft elevation gain, a rock scramble section, and a 360 overlook of the mountains, as well as lots of other cool views.

Because of the distance, heat, and elevation, this trip is more suited towards intermediate hikers, and if you feel comfortable going longer distances at a moderate pace. Additionally, I will be buying 5 of the required $1 Old Rag day passes, and I will send my Venmo out once the trip participants are finalized. The drive is a little under 2 hours from grounds to the trailhead, so keep in mind this hike will be a full day’s commitment, though I have tried my best to estimate the timing. As long as no one is attacked by a rogue bear or Maryland driver, and we keep a good pace, I’m aiming to be back by 5-5:30 at the latest.

The Plan:
7AM-Leave Echols for Trailhead (early start time to beat the crowds and snag a good parking spot)
9AM-Arrive at Trailhead
9AM~1/2PM-Hike!! (plus lunch/snacks)
2-4/5PM-Back to Echols

What to Bring:
At least 32 oz of Water
Snacks and/or Lunch- enough food to make it through most of the day…. I’d be game to stop for food on the way back but that can be a group decision
Hiking boots or sturdy sneakers
Layers – It will be slightly cooler in the morning

What I will bring:
Old Rag Passes
SNP Pass
Car
