Sunday GW&JNF Hike!!!!

OVERVIEW

Hey everyone!

I have just found this loop in the Thunder Ridge Wilderness Area that looks to be a good time. It is an 8.2 mile loop that goes along Petites Gap Rd, Sulphur Spring Trail, and the AT.

IMPORTANT!! – DRIVERS ARE NEEDED!! – You will get priority off of the waitlist! I would like to have one additional car plus mine go on this trip, so please sign up if you are able to drive!

We will be leaving from the Echols dorm at 9:30am and we should get back to uva at around 5:00pm. It is about an hour and 30 minute drive to the trailhead from UVA. Please message me if you have any questions or concerns (757-778-7796).

WEATHER:
It looks like temperatures will range from 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday – It can also be windy on the exposed parts of the hike. I suggest wearing long pants and a fleece or another polyester sweatshirt, along with bringing something like a wind-resistant jacket (avoid cotton and jeans!).

– Length: 8.2 miles (loop)
– Elevation gain: 1,706 ft
– In the clockwise direction, the hike starts with a 2-mile gravel road descent, gradually increases in elevation along sulphur spring trail, and gets steeper for the final climb on the AT.

You Should Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots
– Weather-appropriate clothing
– A hiking backpack or camelbak (preferably not a school bag)
– any snacks that you may desire and a lunch for during the hike
– About 2 liters of water
