Sunday Old Rag Hike; Peak Foliage Zoom Zoom

OVERVIEW

Howdy folks,

Are you waitlisted on Charlie’s sunrise hike? Can you get up really early, just not 2:45am early? Are you confident that you can hike pretty fast? Then join MY Sunday old rag hike!!! Let’s enjoy the peak foliage with all the red n orange leaves.

If you know anything about Old Rag during peak seasons, tourists come from all over and hella crowd up the rock scramble (especially on weekends). SOoOoOo Plan is to meet EXTRA EARLY at Echol’s at 5:45am, start hiking at 7, and bust thru the entire ~10 mile loop. We’ll stop at the top for lunch and some dope pics because the lush foliage will be in its PRIME. We’ll get done by 11:30am, and drive back to Cville. Shouldn’t be back any later than 1pm.

I PLAN ON RUNNING PART OF THE SECOND HALF OF THIS LOOP. I don’t want to call this trip a trail run but most of our descent down the fire route will probably be a light jog. This hike is physically challenging with steep elevation gains for long distances. The rock scrambles are also some of the more difficult ones you will encounter on a hike. Hikingupward ranks it 4/5 in terms of difficulty.

That being said ^^^ you should just be in generally good shape, even if you’ve never done old rag before. If we run the second half, we’ll get back to grounds even earlier (I know you busybodies will have things to do). Entry will be $5/person if we can’t get SNP passes. There will be a fast car and a slow car, so if 4-5ppl are extra zoomy, they don’t have to wait at the bottom of Old Rag to get their stuff out of the other car.

Things needed:
-snack (cliff bars or fruit chews idk)
-2+ liters water (preferably in a hydration pack)
-layers to strip on and off)
-sturdy shoes
-chipper attitude!
