Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
the sun will be rising and stress will be relieving
i’ve already had 3 mental breakdowns this week & it’s only 9am on a tuesday, so i don’t know about y’all but i am in desperate need of an escape to the outdoors.
this is an ambitious adventure, but you are all uva kids, so i’m confident you can handle it. let’s kick off the weekend by summiting old rag for sunrise.
-we will be leaving Echols by 3:45 AM. if you arrive any later, you can take your self right back to bed.
-the drive is about 1 hour & the hike is about 9 miles total
-we will be keeping a pretty fast pace so be ready even if you’re not a morning person
-we will catch the sunrise & get on our way (not much time to chill) because we need to be back to grounds at 10:30 AM in order for me to make it to my 11 AM shift at work lol
it is going to be so rewarding to reach the peak of old rag in time to watch a new day dawn, so don’t let that 3:15 AM alarm you’ll have to set prevent you from coming. it will be well worth it
-shenandoah park pass (i have one but if we take 2 cars we need another 1 or else bring $5)
-sturdy hiking shoes (it’s a longer hike with rock scrambles at the top)
-headlamp (you are responsible for getting them from gear room)
-2L water & breakfast & snacks
-something warm to wear at the summit (yes you will work up a sweat hiking but it will be a bit nippy at the top)
-stories & playlists to get us all motivated
-i can drive 4 people, but if there are actually enough people who want to go on this trip I will need another driver
-drivers & SNP pass holders get priority off the waitlist
-drivers get reimbursed + 50% tip (please arrive at echols with a full tank of gas)
