Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Old Rag
Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park is one of the most popular place to Hike in Virginia. It is so popular, in fact, that you need to pay $8 to get in. But it is well worth your time and money. At the top, you can get a 360 panoramic view IN the sunset. Need a new desktop background picture, here’s your chance to make your own.
This is a view just below the summit: http://www.bobcantor.com/hiking/images/OldRagView.htm
This hike is moderately difficult. On the way to Summit (4 hrs), there are some rock scrambles near the top as well as a short cave. You will need your hands free so bring a backpack. We will reach the summit on time to eat and watch sunset at 7:49 pm.
Hiking down (2 hrs) is fairly easy and we will be hiking down in the dark with headlamps. The total loop is 7.2 miles/2100 ft elevation. The weather is lookig okay at this point with temperature around 40-50. Wear layers of clothing to keep yourself warm as it will get cold at night.
You Provide: Food, plenty of water, layers of clothing, appropriate shoes for hiking, headlamp if you have it, camera for those priceless moments, $8 entrance fee, and your adventurous mind.
Club Provides: Headlamp, Ride, and Kodak Moments
