Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Shenandoah National Park
Hey hey hey!!
For those of you who want to turn your Monday into an absolute banger of a day, I’ve got just the proposal: COME HIKE WITH ME!
Chimney Rock is a great vista about 1.7 miles from the Riprap Hollow trailhead. The trailhead conveniently situated in the southern district of the park so the drive should only be about an hour, and because the vista faces west, sunset should be tasty.
It’s 3.4 miles round trip and is “moderately strenuous” according to the national park officials. We’ll leave no later than 3pm, drive out there, be on the trail by 4:15pm, catch the 5:30 sunset, boogie down to the cars, and crunch the drive back to the ‘Ville for a ~7:15 arrival.
While the weather is forecast to be sunny as all get-out, it will also be C O L D. Bring layers (and more layers), and prepare to snuggle a bit at the top.
What to bring:
– water (at least a least 1.5L)
– comfy shoes
– LAYERS
– snacks if ya feel the vibe…. rumblin’ tummies are no fun
– park pass if you have one. I do, but if we have two cars we’ll need to split the fee for the second car 10 ways (will be real cheap that way)
Drivers get wait list priority!!
