The Perfect Wave
Aloha shredders,
Surfing? Dope. River? Cool. River surfing? “Radical” – Chicken Joe (2007).
The Gauley River is home to the “Perfect Wave,” a small standing wave that is running at nearly any water level and asking for us to shred it up. Sunday morning we will pack up and head to the wave to session it for a while prior to taking off back to the ‘Ville.
I will be bringing two surfboards that we will have at the wave and since only one person can hit it at a time this is plenty. Surfing this wave is hard at first and thus it is essential that you have previous surfing abilities, or a willingness to fail repeatedly. Everyone must be a very confident swimmer as you basically have to swim up a rapid to get to the wave which is inherently dangerous, although it can be done very safely if done correctly. I will provide life jackets and helmets which are mandatory to wear. Also I will try to bring wet suits for everyone. After we’ve sent all we have to send we will begin our Eastern journey back to Grounds.
*You MUST already be going to NRGE to go on this trip, which of course means you must already be in the main carpool
**This trip is dependent on the water level which changes daily so there is a small chance we will not be able to go, in which case we can do a hike or something and still have a good time.
***Drivers needed, specifically a driver who can take two surf boards, the usual gas reimbursements apply
