Russel Fork River
This trip will be an exploration of southwest virginia. The intent is to make the club’s first runs down Russell Fork river which has two sections, the first section is a nice intermediate class II-III, the next section has some pretty burly drops, rated at IV-V. We’ll get there tomorrow night after about a 5 hour drive, camp and have some good camp food. The next morning we’ll scout the river, if it looks rediculously insane or if the levels are too low to run anything than we’ll pitch the river and take our bikes and packs over to some nearby mountains. Hungry Mother state park is nearby and should offer some good day hikes or trail riding.
So sign up for the trip if you are looking for a spur of the moment advventure. Case and I are planning on driving down and checking out the scene, with little game plan so far. We just know that there are some fun times to be had. Bring your sense of adventure and your (a) kayaking skills, (b) mountain bikes skills, or (c) hiking skills. Either way, it should be a good time.
