Corner Of Echols Dorm
Echols/your house/wherever
Red River Gorge, Kentucky, USA
What are YOU doing for fall break?? Neglect your family, they still love you. CLIMB!!! I love my momma as much as the next guy, but it is time to leave the nest, and build a new one in the lovely Corbin sandstone. It simply sucks the moisture out of your fingers. This is a good thing trust, the rock might as well hold on to you! Depending on the crag, some of the walls are menacing and mean, where the crimps don’t let up, while others are tall and proud, littered with jugs that make you feel like Mr. Ondra himself.
Simply put the Red is some of the best climbing on the east!! We’ve had some wonderful adventures at the red and made goood memories— we want to share tha love with more odc peeps!!
On top of the climbing we’ll be staying at MIGUELS PIZZA, the coolest climbing social spot / campground / pizza restaurant IN THE WORLD!! Miguel’s has everything you could dream of: the world’s largest game of knockout, slacklines, flame juggling hippies, weird hippies, chill hippies, tech bros working remotely, a merch shop, and yuuuuummy pizza with interesting toppings (ex: mango salsa!!)
This is primarily a sport climbing trip and will cater to the interests/level of the attendees. We anticipate climbing mainly in the 5.6 – 5.13 range. SO a very wide range.. beginners welcome!!
If any peeps are looking to learn/practice specific skills, we will prioritize making sure you get that instruction and practice. If you are a solid top rope climber and are looking to learn how to lead, we can teach a few folks! We also have several spots for beginners who are trying to get some outdoor experience and practice top roping/top rope belaying.
Examples of skills that would be great to learn/practice on this trip: top rope belaying, knots, lead basics (clipping techniques, footwork, etc.), lead belaying, cleaning routes, setting anchors on bolts.
The goal of this trip is to SPREAD KNOWLEDGE AND HAVE FUN!!! We want this trip to be a sort of learning stew where everyone can share their climbing skills and improve!! **Experienced folks who want to help mentor/teach: please sign up and let us know in the comments on the trip survey what you can help with!
**we will prioritize a few spots for new club members / climbers on this trip!
SCHEDULE:
We’ll plan to have cars leave for the red anywhere between Thursday October 10th and Friday evening October 11th, depending on people’s schedules. The drive is 7 hours so this day will be mostly driving!! We’ll coordinate cars based on people’s schedules so some cars may get to the red a day earlier than others. The goal is to climb all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and hang out at Miguel’s at night! We’ll leave on Tuesday.
