OVERVIEW

…rolling! Due to all of the rain, this local river is as high as I’ve seen it. This time of year it usually is at the tail end of its run-able season with water just trickling over the 3 class II rapids. Right now those class IIs are border line class III with plenty of surf waves and a few play spots. The run is ~3 miles and can satisfy paddlers of all levels. Only sign up if you have prior white water kayaking experience, or if you’ve taken the roll class at the AFC and aren’t afraid of getting wet.

Outdoors at UVa provides:

Kayak, paddle, skirt, helmet, pfd (personal flotation device), wet suit, spray jacket, nose plugs, transportation.

You must bring:

Appropriate clothing: swimming gear is fine. Cotton is bad. Foot protection is recommended, e.g. neoprene booties, aqua socks, or sandles that strap tightly to your feet.
