The Search for Fall Foliage Part 2 at Bear Church Rock: 2Fall2Foliage

OVERVIEW

Hi friends.
I am still searching for more fall foliage to stare at and have decided that Bear Church rock is a pretty good spot to look at a lot of leaves at once. Bear Church Rock is a bare peak that sits just about on the top of the mountain we will ascending with some fantastic views of the Rapidan and Staunton River Valleys. The trail we will take to reach this overlook is an 8.4 mile out and back with about 2,000 feet of elevation gain. This is a challenging hike, but the view at the top is worth it. Plus, hopefully there will be plenty of fall colors still left for us to see on the way up! See the AllTrails below for more info.

The Plan:
Meet at Echols at 1
Head out for the trailhead at about 1:10 at the latest
Get to the trailhead at about 2:00
Hike for about 4-5 hours(depending on how fast we go)
Leave the trailhead at 6:30-7
Get back to Echols at 8 hopefully

What to bring:
Appropriate hiking shoes
1-2 liters of water
Some layers for if it gets cold
Snacks/food
Headlamp if you really want to
