Let’s go on another triple crown hike! A few weeks ago I led an EPIC trip to Dragon’s Tooth in Catawba, VA and it made me want to hike another triple crown trail. I hiked Tinker Cliffs for the first time on my 9th birthday (what a way to spend the day!) and think it’s about time to go hike it again. It’s a 7.7 mile round trip hike with ~2k feet of elevation. We’ll be right across the valley from McAfee’s Knob (most photographed spot on the AT). This hike is fun and I think that anyone can do it, but it is slightly longer than most beginner hikes, so you should be comfortable walking 8ish miles with a good amount of elevation gain.
Here’s the plan
Leave cville 8am (please get there before 8am so we can get on the road!)
Drive 2hr, get to trailhead around 10am and start hiking
Hike, take breaks, eat snacks, enjoy the views, etc
Get back to trailhead latest 4pm (im budgeting in LOTS of extra time)
back to cville 6pm latest
What you bring:
-WATER (I’d recommend 1-2 nalgenes roughly)
-snacks and lunch
-sturdy hiking shoes
-weather-appropriate clothing (layers!)
What I bring:
-same as you
-headlamp
-first aid kit
