Trad Climbing the Old Rag Classics

OVERVIEW

I’ve been dying to do the Old Rag classics, in particular, the super classic hand and finger crack — Strawberry Fields (5.9)!! Part of the reason I’ve never done this is that it’s located on the Reflector Oven wall, which I guess you could tell from the name is a tiny bit too hot to do during the summer time; but, during late November it should be great!

The type of climbing we’ll be doing is trad and top rope ranging anywhere from 5.6 to 5.12. The only requirement is that you already know how to climb. However, to get the most enjoyment out of this trip you should probably be able to climb at least 5.9, otherwise you’ll be sitting around for good chunks of time.

There’s one final important detail about this trip. Instead of the usual first person to sign up is on the trip deal, I have the trip size set to 1 (just me) and will be picking people off of the waitlist that I feel would benefit most from this trip. That means that trad climbers have priority over everyone and experienced top rope climbers have priority over less experienced climbers. My guess is that everyone who trad climbs will be guaranteed a spot, most people who toprope at 5.9+ will be given a spot, and possibly some people who climb 5.8 will make it aboard. I’ll begin moving people off the waitlist a couple weeks before the trip starts.

As usual, make sure you bring water and snacks, a rain jacket, and warm clothing.
The club can supply any of the needed climbing gear if you need it as well as dinner if we feel like it.
