Howdy folks,
We’re incredibly lucky to have some amazing hiking and biking trails so close to Charlottesville, but winter storms have taken their toll on the forests and many trails are currently blocked by downed trees and limbs. Mill Creek Trail near Sherando Lake is in particularly rough shape, with a few spots of localized heavy damage. The plan for this Sunday is to head out there and clear as many trees and limbs as we can! Plan to hike either (A) 5 miles with 1500 ft of climbing or (B) 8 miles with 300 feet of climbing, depending on the driver situation. To make sure we all get an arm workout as well, I’ll supply saws and clippers for everyone.
Depending on drivers, we will do one of two options:
A: Park at one end of the trail and hike 5 miles with 1500 feet of climbing to address the worst of the trail blockage
B: Park at both ends of the trail and hike the trail in one direction (8 miles with 300 feet of climbing) to clear the whole trail
Plus, the club will pay for a bodo’s order of up to $7 per person as a thank you for your efforts!
Time plan:
10am: meet up at the shred shack, depart
10:15: Bodo’s fuel up
11:30: arrive at the trailhead, start working
3pn: back at the car(s)
4 (ish): back on grounds, maybe a little later if we need to retrieve another car from the other end of the trail
You should bring:
– water
– lunch/snacks
– rain gear
– sturdy footwear
– gloves if you want them
– your bodos order
I’ll bring:
– saws and clippers
– extra gloves
– $7/person for bodos
