Dragons Tooth Trailhead, Appalachian National Scenic Trail, Catawba, VA, USA
Hey y’all
The triple crown is a beautiful scenic hike that hits three big viewpoints along its 38 miles (Dragon’s Tooth, McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs) typically done as a 3-day backpacking trip. You know what would be even more fun? Sending it all in one day of course! This is an ADVANCED trip and 38 miles is a hell of a long hike (think of it as a marathon and a half), but this trip will be a hell of a lot of fun. There will also be a bail out car halfway through if needed.
The plan is to leave Friday evening with 2 cars, set up a bail out/stash point roughly halfway through the hike and cowboy/car camp at the Dragon’s tooth trailhead, then get up at 4 am in the morning for a long day of hiking. Hit dragon’s tooth for a bit of a sunrise/breakfast, and then send it the rest of the way. Weather is looking relatively cool with a chance of rain, so pretty much ideal conditions tbh
