OVERVIEW

Tired of spending your Tuesday mornings inside of dimly lit libraries and/or aggressively lit dining halls? It’s time to go into the woods!

If you are a lucky duck like me and have free Tuesday mornings, come for a solid morning romp around Fortune Cove’s lower loop trail, featuring woods, ridge lines, and a respite from the grey speckled walls of New Cabell Hall!

We will meet outside Echols dorm at 6:45am sharp, roll through the Bodos drive thru to get some carbohydrate energy for our adventures, and drive for about 40 minutes to get to Fortune’s Cove preserve. The lower loop is somewhere between 4 and 5 miles, so if we hike at a reasonable pace, we should be back in time for 11am classes (maybe bring your class stuff with you if you plan to go straight to class after in case we run late).

NOTE: This trip is listed as beginner, because you definitely don’t need any outdoors experience to be able to hike. HOWEVER, the trail can be quite strenuous at the beginning and in order to be back in time we will need to walk at a decent pace. So be prepared to be a bit out of breath! If you have any doubts/questions about the physical requirements for this trip don’t hesitate to text me ( 412-979-1938).

I don’t have a car so please please please sign up to drive if you can! Drivers will be reimbursed for gas with a 50% tip and be given priority off of the wait list!

What you need to bring:
– A mask for the drive
-Supportive close-toed shoes for hiking (you could probably swing it in Chacos too if you feel confident in your Chaco hiking ability)
-Money for Bodos or other snacks/breakfast for the journey
-WATER (I am bringing at least 1 liter since it may be a bit hot)
-A rain coat
-Some kind of backpack/ bag to hold water and snacks (a school backpack or a drawstring backpack would work fine)
– A good playlist to play in the car 🙂
