Two-Night Intermediate Backpacking Trip to Dolly Sods!

OVERVIEW

We’re going to go to Dolly Sods, WV. You can actually get more information on the park at http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/sp/dolly_sods_wilderness.htm.

It’s about a 3 hour drive to get there. We’ll eat our dinner before we leave or in the car, your choice. We’ll have breakfast and dinner provided by the club on Saturday, breakfast for Sunday provided, and you’ll need to bring your own lunch for both days. We’ll be leaving late on Friday, hiking a few miles *in the dark* to the first campsite, then hiking ~10 miles on Sat and ~5 on Sun, leaving Sun obviously and comin back to Charlottesville.

UVa Outdoors Provides: Sat. breakfast, Sat. dinner, Sun. breakfast, gas money, and if you need: big backpack, backpack rain cover, sleeping bag and pad, tent, and a seat in a car.

You Must Bring: Sat and Sun lunch/snack food, Friday dinner, at least a one liter container of water (I’ll be carrying at least two of these), solid footwear (I’ll have boots, sneakers will probably work fine though), socks (they might get wet, ya never know…and it’s nice to have more than one pair!), bug spray (more of a luxury than a need), toliet paper, *flashlight* (we’re hiking in the dark on Friday…bring a flashlight!!!) proper clothes (it’s going to be cold, especially at night, and especially at a higher elevation. I’ll have long pants, fleece, hat, gloves etc. it could rain a little as well…hopefully not). Try to bring as little cotton as possible, because wet cotton sucks!
