OVERVIEW

The Douthat trip on Sunday is a way better use of a full day, so I’m moving this one to Friday afternoon. We’ll leave around noon-ish, drive the 3 hours, bike for a couple hours, then go to the campground. Are you stoked???

– – – – –

I’m looking to head out sometime after 12-ish, 3-hour drive, bike for a couple hours, and go to the campground by 6 or so. Please just email me if you’re still interested in heading out on Friday, and I’ll take you off the waitlist. Let me know if you have any questions. Also let me know if you can drive.

I’ve never biked the NRG before, but there’s a new (~2 years) trail system out by Fayetteville called Arrowhead trails, and it’s supposed to be pretty great. (http://forums.mtbr.com/virginia-wv-maryland-dc-delaware/fayetteville-wv-arrowhead-kaymoor-trail-730437.html)

The trails are reportedly mellow and flowy but highly rip-able, which hopefully means novice-friendly but still super fun. Since it’s a loop-based system, we might do a couple runs as a big group and then break off by pace if we have the numbers for it.

Like I said, I’ve never biked out there, so you better be ready for an adventure. To make things legit, here’s a map (http://www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/upload/Arrowhead_trail_map-2.pdf).

PLANS:
Are nuts, coordinate later.

YOU SHOULD:
-Have previous mountain biking experience
-Remove yourself from the Base Camp trip if you get on this one

THE CLUB PROVIDES: limited bikes, helmets, tubes. I’m going to try to wrangle them all up so I can use them for the trip. Provide your own bike if you can (we can work out transport).

YOU BRING: bike wear (good shoes, weather/activity appropriate clothing), food/snacks, water, camping gear (if you have it, or check it out), clothes,

FOOD:
I eat like a bum. If you don’t want to do that you should plan accordingly, but hopefully we can work together as some big commune-type thing at the camp site. I may (?) be able to get some funds to purchase some raw materials but don’t bank on it.

and this is all stolen from Dave Clark:

CAMPING:
We’ll be staying at Ray’s Campground with the others: http://www.rayscampground.com/ There is plenty of space, bathrooms/showers, firewood to purchase, and good people.

The club will cover part of your camp fee ($9.00 per person per night)

FEES:
For now I am putting down $20 as a base trip fee to make sure everything gets covered (you may have additional fees depending on the potential separate adventure you might choose; this is the same $20 as I set in the “Base Camp” adventure, NOT in addition to). The bill can get pretty hefty with a huge group traveling, camping, and chowing. I don’t want this trip to put too large of a dent in the club’s checking account, but may be able to reduce the fee. The club’s officers are currently working on getting some outside (Ha! No pun intended!) funding to help subsidize this trip. I’ll know more as the date draws near and will let you know. Whatever the case, your trip fee goes toward lodging fees, food, ga$, and camping gear rental (we had such a huge turnout last year that we had to rent several tents!)
