WAKE UP – Humpback Sunrise Hike

OVERVIEW

Are you itching for an adventure but didn’t want to spend the entire weekend at SPRGE? Well, this hike is the perfect solution. I need an excuse to wake up early, and the sunrise is the best way I could think of. The hike is fairly short (about 1.5 miles), but steep elevation, so be prepared. The plan is to leave Corner of Echols Dorm by 5:45AM and drive half an hour to Humpback. That leaves us with about an hour (the sunrise is at 7:11AM according to Google) to get to the top, which should be more than enough. The weather is looking good, partly cloudy but even with some clouds the view will be worth the early wake up.

TIMING
5:45AM – LEAVE Corner of Echols Dorm
6:15AM – Start hiking
7:11AM – See sunrise
8:30AM – Get back to UVA (although we’ll probably get it back before that)

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
1. Headlamp – no sun means no light, so bring headlamps to avoid tripping (headlamps are much safer than using a phone)
2. Water bottle – stay hydrated
3. Layers – it’s gonna be really cold in the morning, so wear layers
4. Good vibes

THINGS I WILL BRING:
1. Potentially a speaker???
2. Spare headlamps (just in case)

Priority will be given to those that have not been on a trip before, have not been to Humpback Rock and drivers. Let’s get hiking!
