Smoke Hole, WV, USA
Hello all you lovely crunchy humans,
Although temperatures may be low, the stoke is high, and I am rearing to touch some rock. It is very possible that we catch a lucky warm weekend and will be able to climb wherever our hearts desire, but winter weather can be icy, spicy, and dicey, so this trip will include some built in flexibility. This trip is geared toward people who have some climbing experience and are comfortable top rope belaying. There may be an opportunity to learn some sport climbing techniques, but I make no guarantees.
We will meet at the Shred Shack at 6:30am to depart for our climbing destination and return by roughly 7:00pm.
Option A:
If the weather is as good as we hope, the plan is to head to either Smoke Hole or nearby Reeds Creek in WV for some high quality sport climbing.
Option B:
WV could get a snow storm or cold snap, but the Charlottesville area often stays significantly warmer. In that case, the plan is to head up to the Raven’s Roost and Love Gap area on the Blue Ridge Parkway and do some more exploratory top rope climbing.
Option C:
If the weather in Charlottesville is heinous, there is still hope. Manchester wall in Richmond offers some enjoyable urban toprope/sport climbing and the southeasterly location affords us a couple degrees of warmth.
Bottom line: We will touch rock on this trip
