It’s going to snow at The New this weekend…so we’re going to head to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky! It has sick climbing just like The New and is actually much larger! It is further away, but its weather forecast looks a lot better.
The plan is to leave from Bonnycastle Circle on Friday at 6:30pm and come back to UVA on Sunday after a solid day of climbing. We will stay at Miguel’s Pizza. It probably the best climber’s hangout in the East! It has great cheap food (their pizza and breakfast burritos are pretty boss), $2 camping, showers, free wifi, a basketball court, hang boards, a climbing gear shop, and most importantly a nearly endless supply of Ale-81.
You don’t need to know how to trad climb to come. Anyone who’s stoked on climbing is welcome to join!
I will provide all the group climbing gear (protection, ropes, draws,…), but please bring your own personal climbing gear.
What you need to bring:
-Climbing shoes
-Climbing harness
-Climbing helmet
-Climb chalk and chalk bag
-Belay device
-Food/money for food
-Water (at least 2 liters)
-Camping gear (tent, sleeping bag/pad,…)
-Rain gear
What the Club Provides:
-Camping fees
-Gas
-Gear, if you need it (go to a open gear room this week if you need anything)
